Unforgettable luxurious experiences in the Douro wine region
Traveling to the North of Portugal means discovering ancestral traditions that are part of Portuguese history and culture.
There are cities that combine ancestral traditions with modernity. Porto, Braga, Guimarães and Viana do Castelo are great examples of how history and modernity can coexist and, together, provide unique experiences for those who visit them.
We cannot talk about the northern region of Portugal without referring to the world-renowned wines of that region and the landscapes of the Douro wine region.
Places with long and rich history provide unique experiences that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.
Quinta do Vallado is one of those places. Established in 1716, Quinta do Vallado is one of the oldest and most famous estates in the Douro Valley.
It is located on the banks of the Corgo River, a tributary of the Douro River, right next to its mouth and close to the town of Peso da Régua.
It belonged to the legendary Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira and remains to this day in the hands of her descendants.
Today, Quinta do Vallado has 10 hectares of old vineyards planted between the 1920s and 1950s, including Vinha da Granja, in 1929, and Vinha da Coroa, in 1958. The remaining 55 hectares were planted in the 1990s.
Quinta do Vallado can also receive guests in it’s comfortable Wine Hotel. Initially opening the doors to the Traditional House, built in the 18th century and having once belonged to Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, it offers five recently renovated suites.
In 2005, Quinta do Vallado inaugurated the Wine Hotel in the Traditional House, characterised by its warm ochre colour and long gardens bordering the house. The Traditional House's rooms combine comfort with the Douro's traditional and historic décor.
This project's growing success led to the construction of a second building in 2012, made almost entirely of schist - the dominant stone in the region's soil.
Hotel guests are invited to join a daily tour of Quinta do Vallado's winery and ageing cellars, where they will learn about the wine production process. The tour ends with a tasting of our main wines.
And if you want something more than just enjoy the hotel facilities, you can also discover the Douro from another angle. Quinta do Vallado invites you to go on a tour of unforgettable natural beauty.
Or you can just go on a delicious picnic. Take a basket full of regional delicacies, Vallado wines and immerse yourself in the Douro scenery.
You’ll find different options that fit your wishes and you’ll be amazed by them all.
Nearby, there are also lots of places that are worth a visit. The Douro Museum, Nossa Senhora dos Remédios, Fisgas do Ermelo or S. Leonardo da Galafura are some of them.
